Film Photography for your Wedding: Everything You Need to Know

In a world where instant gratification dominates, film photography offers a refreshing return to the art of patience and surprise. Imagine capturing your wedding day with a medium that not only freezes moments in time but also infuses them with an organic, nostalgic charm. Film photography is more than just an aesthetic—it’s a timeless storytelling tool that adds depth and texture to your love story.

WHAT IS FILM?

Film photography is a method of capturing images using light-sensitive film. Did you know that the first digital camera was not invented until 1975? That means that a majority of the photos we see in history books and old movies were shot on film cameras. Film gets processed and developed and digitized....and that’s how we have all these beautiful film photographs!

WHY FILM?

When you take photos on a film camera, you don’t see them instantly like your phone or digital camera. You have to wait until the film gets processed and developed (which can be weeks!) before you have your results back. THIS is the fun of it for me! When you shoot on film, you never know what’s going to come out of it. It captures memories and moments in such a natural, nostalgic, and

cinematic way.

WHY SHOULD I ADD FILM PHOTOGRAPHY TO MY DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY PACKAGE?

Film is an uncontrolled medium — so it is natural to expect some “misfires” in any roll of film. A standard roll of film has 36 exposures so if all those shots are great, you will receive all of them! But with film being so “unexpected”, you may not receive all 36. This can all be impacted by lighting, weather, the processing of the film, etc. Film is simply not as predictable as our standard digital cameras, which is why I recommend it as an add-on in addition to your digital film package.

Adding film photography to your wedding package is like sprinkling a touch of magic onto your special day. It transforms fleeting moments into cinematic keepsakes, evoking feelings that digital simply can’t replicate. Whether it’s the timeless allure, the element of surprise, or the artful imperfections, film delivers a unique perspective on your most cherished memories. Trust me, when you see those developed images, it’ll feel like unwrapping a gift you didn’t know you needed. Let’s create something unforgettable together!
